org_art_lab ist ein Laboratorium, in dem die Ingredienzen Kunst, Wissenschaft und Theologie verschiedenste Verbindungen eingehen. Als Katalysator zur Herstellung von Kompositionen unterschiedlichster Formen dient die Improvisation, als Laborinstrument die Orgel.

1.–5. September 2026
Das org_art_lab 2026 bringt internationale Künstlerinnen, Professor*innen, Studierende, Theolog*innen und Kirchenmusiker*innen für eine intensive Woche des Austauschs zusammen. Im Mittelpunkt stehen neue Perspektiven um die Themen Orgel, Kirchenmusik, Improvisation, Klangkunst, neue Technologien sowie innovative Formen von Liturgie und Vermittlung.
Seit drei Jahren entwickelt sich das org_art_lab als Plattform für Austausch zwischen innovativen Küntler*innen und Theolog*innen. 2026 wird dieses Format erstmals als internationales Forum realisiert. Beteiligte Hochschulen und Gäste kommen unter anderem aus Helsinki, Lyon, Wrocław, Stavanger, Paris, Wien, San Sebastián, Hamburg und Lübeck.
In Workshops, Composer’s Labs, Vorträgen, Diskussionen und offenen Arbeitsformaten werden aktuelle Entwicklungen im Bereich der Orgel und der Kirchenmusik vorgestellt und gemeinsam weitergedacht. Die Themen reichen von Improvisation, Komposition und Live-Elektronik über MIDI gesteuerte Orgel bis hin zu neuen Festivalkonzepten, Fragen von Ritual, Gottesdienst und spiritueller Praxis im 21. Jahrhundert.
Das org_art_lab versteht die Orgel nicht nur als historisches Instrument, sondern als Medium für aktuelle künstlerische und spirituelle Kommunikation.

As a performer I always wondered what music I can play in concert for today’s public. This question got a new dimension when I was appointed Artistic Director of a major organ Festival in Toulouse. My lecture is a feedback of my experiences.
How can we inspire young people to discover the organ through imagination, storytelling and collaboration?
Bart Verheyen, Head of Organ at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp, presents two recent projects — the immersive soundscape Captain Nemo and A Child of Books, a composition for organ and three children’s choirs — as examples of how we can bring new audiences into the world of the organ.
